Igor Rausis is banned for 6 years from playing and also stripped from his GM title that he’s been holding since more or less 1992. No rating change for some reason. I am not sure, I agree with such severe sanctions even though I perfectly understand that Igor has been guilty. But still, many players have been guilty in similar way, some of them haven’t even been caught, some of them got very short ban. The biggest ban so far has been 3 years, that would be perfectly justified in Igor’s case. But 6? Would be interested in your opinions.
Levente VajdaI m sorry Meir Bar-Tal, but you are clearly not aware of what is going on in the chess world. Cheating was not invented in the same time with the engines. 20-30 years ago, most of the grand masters got their title by cheating. I would say more then 50%, so you can have an idea about how serious the cheating problem is in chess.
He pleaded guilty on charge 1 (toilet photo)
That means he must already get 3 years and lose title as happened to Nigalidze…
BUT! He then also confessed to three other cases of cheating in previous years, two with mobile and one a pre-arranged game.
Means that he could get even 10 years ban , but considering that he got health problems and that is very sorry and realized what he has done and because of cooperation he finally got only 6…
It might seems a strong precedent but also can be considered as needed due to the increasing danger of cheating. Reminding you that the current maximum ban is 15 years in terms of Code of Ethics. So 10 years for serial cheater also looks fair…
Now having a bit more information ,I hope you can judge in a bit better and more objective way , if justice was done or not…
